Mainframe System Support Engineer
• Maintain and manage the z/OS operating system, including installing updates, patches, and new software.
• Optimize system performance, troubleshoot issues, and identify bottlenecks.
• Utilize scripting languages like REXX to automate tasks and manage the mainframe environment.
• Work on troubleshooting and resolving problems, analyzing root causes, and managing change requests.
• Hardware Support: Understand mainframe hardware components, including processors, storage, and network interfaces.
• Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, including TCP/IP and other protocols.
• Implement and manage RACF security controls, including user access, group permissions, and system privileges.
• Conduct security audits, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend remediation measures.
• Respond to security incidents, analyze events, and implement containment and recovery procedures.
• Evaluate security risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Configure and maintain security-related software and hardware, such as firewalls and encryption systems.
• Work with hardware and software vendors to resolve issues and manage projects.
Skillset:
• IBM/vendor support – familiar with IBM and other vendors web sites: Open problem cases, ask questions, prepare and send dumps.
• SMP/E – in depth knowledge to do install work on CICS and any associated products
• Security – in depth knowledge of ACF2 (must be able to install security on CICS and associated products and create ACF2 security rules as they pertain to CICS)
• SMF – moderate skill set required to gather and manipulate SMF data (specifically the CICS 110 records)
• Problem determination skills – ability to diagnose problem and determine root cause and remediation
• Agile experience is a plus.
• Expertise in Mainframe Db2 v12/ v13 Database System-Administration on z/OS
• DB2 installation, upgrade, patching, configuration and operations
• Proficiency in DB2, VSAM Systems Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning
• Experience in Data Sharing setup in Parallel Sysplex environment
• Knowledge in ACF2/RACF, CICS v5.5, Mainframe MQ v9
• Experience in SMPE and ISV tools installation and migration
• Create and maintain database entities, including instances, databases, table spaces and tables
• Database DR, Cloning, Backup/Recovery, HA and Point In Time Recovery (PITR) expertise
• Experience with Database ISV Tools and Products like OmegaMon and AdminTool
• Application related performance tuning; Write, modify, and debug database specific SQL queries
• DBA related utilities like Unload, Load, DSNJU003, DSNJU004, Reorg, Runstats, image copy
REXX, CLIST, JCL, JES and Assembler knowledge
Salary Range- $85,000-$95,000 a year
